This historical reproduction carafe dates back to the turn of the century. Popular in France and other parts of Europe, these loop carafes were commonly found sitting on bistro tables as a form of advertisement. The dome that is located as the base of the carafe is designed to showcase a magnifying glass effect. This is known as the loop, or Loupe in French. Text was written on the Loop, and when water filled the carafe the text would be magnified, therefore drawing ones attention to the advertisement.
For any absinthe lover, you may be aware that dripping water by carafe was the most utilized way to add water to absinthe in the pre-prohibition era. One would slowly and continuously drip iced water until the sugar cube dissolved from the spoon into the glass of absinthe. This handmade, mouth-blown clear glass loop carafe is a beautifully historic piece to add to your absinthe collection
